2005 Good Neighbour Award

Alan Barnett, a resident of Winwick, was the winner of the Winwick Parish Council Good Neighbour Award for 2005. It rewards any citizen of Winwick who is making a difference to an individual, or group of people, in the areas of personal care, care for the environment, or care for the community.

The criteria for judging was that the person has made a real difference to the community. Alan was nominated by John Gordon, Chairman of the Parish Council, for the following:

-"Active member of the Church, former Chorister, Altar Boy, Candle bearer and now Crucifer
-Has been active for years in the Scouts, including Gang Shows & Pantomimes.
-Alan has become famous for his childrens' entertainment, parties and discos.
-The ever popular "Alan's Bingo" nights are just one of many ways he raises funds for the Church & School and he can always be found as custodian of the pay gates at the Galas & Bar-B-Qs.
-His other activities include school sports days and he was a founder member of the Carnival Committee.
-He has a genuine and visible delight in helping people and his community with special attention to his older friends and neighbours.
Alan is always cheerful with time for and interest in everybody and bang up to date on local news
-Winwick is a rosier and richer place thanks to Alan's care and commitment." (John Gordon, Oct 2005)
